Orangutan Titties - By HoneyNoMind - 07.01.23
Have you ever shot a poetry slam in a garage filled with fifteen people on a 108 degree day? We hadn’t either, but we somehow pulled it off a few weekends ago. To backtrack, we met Honeynomind during our very first studio shoot with Brother Yufi - and since then have been yearning to collaborate. Originally we had planned on shooting around noontime, but since the weather was so hot we decided to go for a cool 9:00AM. Once people began to show, we set up our gear - allowing Honeynomind to greet her peers, meditate, and gather herself before the shoot. Among the crowd were familiar faces such as Yufi and Beatnik, and some new ones - including Seren, a local photographer, and Shenay, a tea vendor with the best iced tea.
Once everyone had arrived, Honeynomind gave a brief introduction, thanked everyone for coming, and was off. She wove poetic stories detailing and analogizing the hardships of her life, the differences between her past and present selves, and the significance of family. It was interesting to watch and absorb the crowds’ reactions to her stories, it provided a lot of insight into how emotionally connected this community was. Later in the set, she brought Brother Yufi on stage to perform a praise to Allah - a pleasant experience as always! Afterwards, she took over and closed out the performance with affirmations of change and new growth, many thanks, and a fun group photo!
Many thanks to Honeynomind and her peers who came to share such an unforgettable experience with us. We look forward to further collaboration as always!
