Moonwave - Tiny Sesh - 07.08.23

What an incredible shoot! Moonwave came through on Saturday the 8th and absolutely rocked the house with three banger punk / post punk inspired tracks! We originally met the group in San Fransisco as they played alongside Loserlees and Stanton, and have been eager to collaborate ever since. Upon arriving to the studio, we decided to spend some time catching up and sharing info about the local music scene, getting to know each of the band members a bit better. We discovered a mutual connection from college and even found out the band was attending the same show at Oakland Secret as we were! (check out the show here!)

After we’d settled in, the band began setup, we ran a quick A/V check, and we were off! When I say these dudes were on it, I mean they literally one-took the entire performance! Kade absolutely killed the lead guitar and vocals, Ricky slapped the bass around as usual, and Luka’s drumming ensured the neighbors heard us! 😂 Their first track, “Spyro” was a super heavy track that had several metal elements while still maintaining a punk-esque structure! The second track, “Worms” maintained a much more forward driven emo-punk feel while still leaving room for super dynamic shifts between A/B sections. And their final track “Strwberry” was our personal favorite. The song’s structure was brilliant, allowing Kade’s vocals to really shine through - only to be swallowed up by the ethereal tones of the lead guitar.

Getting to hang out with some of my closest friends and watch a talented group play such great tracks was such a treat. We look forward to working with Moonwave again in the future and implore everyone reading this to go check out their page! Thanks for stopping by!
