Brother Yufi and the Worlds Live 05.20.23

Our first tiny desk shoot!! Our man Brother Yufi came through the studio that Saturday looking to promote his new album “Yufi and the Worlds.” Accompanied by his sister NoHoneyMind, and his friend Hussein, they bore gifts of sparkling water and dates. We spent the first chunk of the afternoon getting to know one another, playing chess and building a bond over the art we enjoy. The energy in the room was amazing, and I could tell from the very beginning that we were about to have a sublime shoot! Once the techies were ready on their respective fronts, we started rolling - and Yufi did not disappoint. His set, “Yufi and the Worlds - Live” was a delicious mash pot of Islamic inspired spoken word, amazing rap over local beats, and intense spiritual energy that kept the audience enraptured the whole way. I think we did like 3 takes total? 😂 - surely a homage to Yufi’s professionalism and artistic prowess. The last scene of the performance was especially impactful - Yufi had the audience leave the room, setting the stage for a beautiful solo chant that transitioned into the video’s outro. We also got to take some time to make Yufi a little interview, where he confidently put us onto the likes of Jakhari Smith and Beatnik Scum, as well as naming Allah as the most important factor in his artistic journey. After the shoot, everyone hung out for a while, thanking each other for their time, and making sure the group knew of their appreciation for that day. We also got to book HoneyNoMind for a set of her own - so we look forward to that!

This day marked one of the most important steps we’ve taken as The Sesh to help artists actualize their ideas, and we wholeheartedly thank Yufi for being the first person to reach out to us after our studio unveiling. We are incredibly lucky to have such a moral and artistic friend on our team and are incredibly excited to work again in the future!
